Food for Thought

I had this posted in my own blog, but will post it here now that I've finally successfully joined Stephanie's.
Discovering the literary archeology of early American novels demonstrates that the relationships between literary history, print culture, the canon, and readership are incredibly intertwined. In Revolution and the Word, Davidson says, "Literacy is a value" (125). She goes on to say that "In a democratic especially, literacy becomes almost a matter of principle, a test of the moral fiber of a nation" (125). These early novels educated readers who were otherwise "excluded from elite literature and culture" (149). Even improvement in transportation of the time effected fiction. By doing further research, I will be able to learn more about the process of literary archeology and the connections with my text.
